A coordinate measuring machine records points on a component relative to an established coordinate system. It is useful when a drawing controls relationships between multiple features, datums or orientations that are difficult to verify with simple hand tools.
METHOD LIMITATIONS
What should be agreed before production
CMM inspection must be planned around fixturing, probe access, temperature, surface condition and the drawing's datum scheme. Not every feature is best measured by CMM, so the inspection route is agreed according to risk and accessibility. Send the controlled drawing, critical characteristics, sampling requirement and expected report format with your RFQ.
